Let It Play: Eetodesign's Innovative Musical Device

An interactive product inspired by nature's harmony, playing melodies with the wind

Let It Play, a unique musical device by Eetodesign, is a testament to the beauty of human interaction with nature. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of Hanami, the bloom of cherry blossoms, this innovative product creates random melodies that echo the serenity of nature. The device attaches to tree branches, playing pleasant tunes as the wind blows or the branches shake, offering a new way to experience the natural world.

Eetodesign's Let It Play is not just a musical device; it's a celebration of nature. The device is equipped with two flexible slings that can be twisted around tree branches, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the tree. When the wind blows or the tree branches shake, the device plays a melody from a random combination of notes in a particular scale, such as the Pentatonic scale. With any change in wind direction or intensity, and obviously in branches’ movement’s orders, infinite ear-catching and pleasant melodies will play.

The technology behind Let It Play is as impressive as the concept itself. The device houses an electrical board consisting of a microcontroller, sensor, player, and power supply. The microcontroller, an Arduino-based AVR, gathers data, analyses it, and sends a command to the player module. A gyroscope sensor senses the motion, and a SD-Card reader allows for a flexible possibility to play various melodies. The device is powered by flexible solar cells, a testament to Eetodesign's commitment to sustainability.

Let It Play is not just a product; it's an experience. It changes the way people interact with trees and nature. With this device, one can listen to melodies composed and played by nature itself. The device functions automatically, requiring nothing more than a listener to appreciate the music nature composes.

The design of Let It Play was a journey that began in May 2016 in Tehran and concluded in January 2016. The project was tested and exhibited at the Iran University Of Science and Technology, where it was approved by the university's professors. The team behind this innovative product includes Aminreza Shokouhi, Saba Beizaei, Sasan Ghaffari, and Kourosh Hosseini Monjezi.

The design's uniqueness and innovation earned it the prestigious Silver A' Musical Instruments Design Award in 2017. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Let It Play is a testament to Eetodesign's commitment to creating products that not only function well but also contribute to the overall aesthetic and experience of the user's environment.
